Many students from low-income families don’t have parental help after school to oversee completion of homework and studying for exams. Regular assistance with homework helps students develop healthy habits and confidence in school.
Homework Heroes work with students at low-income apartment communities and other organizations who serve at-risk students in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We provide after school homework assistance for Kindergarten through 12th grade students. Homework Heroes are not tutors, teachers or experts. They offer guidance for students as they complete homework, study for quizzes and exams, practice skills, and complete assigned projects. Homework Heroes may also help students organize their class folders and backpacks as needed.
Volunteers arrive between 3:00 and 3:30 pm and work with students between 1-1.5 hours Monday-Friday. We ask that volunteers commit to serving once or twice each month but are welcomed to come as often as desired.
